What Lens is
Lens is a conversation-intelligence Chrome extension. It helps you understand an open email thread and express your own thoughts as a draft. It is not an autonomous email agent and never sends mail for you.
Data Lens reads
On supported sites (currently Outlook Web), the content script reads the conversation currently visible in the page so Lens can summarise it and draft a reply from your input. Lens does not scan your mailbox in the background and does not request access to all websites.
Data stored locally
- Preferences — language, tone, theme and signature template
- Feature flags — for example debug logging
- Optional runtime API configuration
- Optional local knowledge database (SQLite in the Origin Private File System) for future on-device features
These stay on your device. Clearing site data for the extension removes them.
Data sent to the Lens API
When you ask Lens to read a thread, continue a discussion, or write a draft, the extension sends the relevant conversation text and your instructions to the Lens API configured for your build. Requests to the hosted API are authenticated with a shared Lens credential. The API may forward that content to a cloud language-model provider to produce a response. Vendor API keys stay on the server; the extension does not embed vendor model keys.
